Perfect symmetry is a design decision. So is the deliberate refusal of it. Japanese aesthetics codified this as wabi-sabi: the beauty of the imperfect, the impermanent, the incomplete. The ancient Greek sculptor Polykleitos wrote the Canon — a treatise defining ideal human proportion — so that artists could achieve what he saw as perfection. The twentieth century, exhausted by this pursuit, produced Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, whose biomorphic sculptures drew their power from organic irregularity and the way an asymmetric form catches the eye differently from every angle.

Hand-poured from 100% natural soy wax at our Orlando studio, its uneven silhouette catches light differently from every angle — a quiet refusal of the uniform cylinder, and a more interesting object for it.
