Every major league baseball is made by hand. The process: a cork-and-rubber core, wound in three concentric layers of wool yarn at precise tension, then a layer of cotton, then two figure-eight panels of cowhide stitched with exactly 108 double stitches — 216 individual passes of red thread, each pulled to the same tension with a curved needle. The finished ball weighs between 5 and 5.25 ounces, measures 9 to 9.25 inches in circumference, and must pass a hardness test. The Rawlings factory in Costa Rica has made every major league ball since 1970, and every one is still sewn by hand — the machines have never gotten the stitch tension right. The seam is not decorative. The raised thread creates the aerodynamic turbulence that allows a curveball to break, a slider to cut, a two-seam fastball to tail. Carl Yastrzemski stored game balls in a humidor to control how humidity changed their flight. The baseball is a precision instrument that happens to look like a simple white sphere.
The Baseball Soy Candle is a hand-poured sculptural soy wax candle — the seams included — made at our Orlando studio in 7 fragrances.
Available scents: Nag Champa · Amber Musk · Mahogany Teakwood · White Eucalyptus · Bergamot & White Tea · Sandalwood Rose · Musk — all phthalate-free.

Trim wick to ¼" before each burn. Keep away from drafts and flammable materials. Never leave burning unattended. For best results, allow wax to pool to the edges on first burn.
